For our forest is endangered. How can you tell? The condition of the tree crowns, for example. Crown thinning is increasing dramatically - by 45 percent in the last 30 years. And only two percent of German forest areas are under nature conservation, five percent would be necessary to preserve biodiversity.

Protecting forests - preventing negative consequences
Our trees are already significantly weakened by climate change and could be further damaged by the weather and pests. If forest decline is not stopped or significantly slowed down, this will have negative consequences for many areas of life:
- Loss of biodiversity: Forests are habitats for a large number of plants, animals and microorganisms. When forests die, many species lose their habitat, which leads to a decline in biodiversity.
- Climate change: Forests play an important role in the carbon cycle by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and producing oxygen. When forests die, less CO2 is absorbed, which exacerbates climate change.
- Water regulation: Forests play a crucial role in regulating the water cycle. Dying forests can lead to changes in rainfall patterns, soil erosion and problems with water supply and quality.
Economic - Impacts: Many communities depend on forests, whether for wood production, tourism or other economic activities. The death of forests can lead to a loss of jobs and economic difficulties.
